Slate or schalie are names often used by racing pigeon fanciers to describe the phenotype of a homozygous smoky pigeon, regardless of the base pattern. Typically smoky blue pigeons will simply be called "slate", ash red smoky pigeons "red slate" and the rare smoky brown birds "brown slate".
