Black modifiers

Post by Johannes »

There’s black and there’s BLACK.
I used to breed red rabbits and had a good understanding of the role of rufus modifiers and the profound effect they had on red coat phenotype depth. I’ve started to keep pigeons now and am interested in colour genetics especially black. I have an impressive black American show racer which has good depth and consistency in colour and would like to increase this colour in my loft but can find no information on dark modifiers. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Dirty is the most important. Sooty, smoky, dark check, grease quills etc improve the colour.
