Color ID on this feral?

Post by Journey »

The facilities guy at the local high school knows I keep pigeons and asked me to come get a pair of feral pigeons that have been living in an enclosed gutter for some time now. I was quite surprised when I pulled this one out. My first thought was that it's just sun-faded bronzing, but it's going to drive me nuts if I don't find out for sure what it is.

And yes, these birds are being kept separate from my other pigeons. ;)

There are a few different bronzing factors and I'm terrible at identifying them, so I won't give you a wrong answer.

But new mutations have been found in ferals in the past, it's always worth looking at them 🙂

Thank you, Adam - I was considering keeping them and letting them breed just to see what they throw, purely out of curiosity, and I just might do that.

This is the cockbird, the hen is a blue bar.
