Genotypes/Phenotypes of my birds?
Genotypes/Phenotypes of my birds?
I got my first pigeons when I was a kid, and bred them together without really knowing anything about their genetics. I've been looking into exactly what alleles they all carried, because the offspring looked very different from the parents. I've attached pictures of the hen (black and white), cock (brown with white and gray markings) and the offspring (light brown and white) to help with possible identification.

Re: Genotypes/Phenotypes of my birds?
Hi!
The young appears to be a recessive red mottle.
Father, hard to tell for sure from the picture but probably an indigo T-check, and also pied.
Mother is probably some form of spread grizzle.
Both parents must have carried the recessive red gene to produce that youngster.
