stipper offspring from recessive red mottle

Post by HomeSweetHome »

I have a recessive red mottle "agate" hen who is from "almond breeding" a stipper cock X kite hen. I bred her to a brown bar cock. one baby is brown T pattern and one baby looks classical almond.

Can the recessive red mottle hen be stipper? There is no signs of any flecking on her whatsoever.

I will post photos soon.

Did the baby have short down in the nest?

I just had a closer look at the images, are you sure dilute isn't involved? Could the cock be a dilute carrier?

He could be, but what accounts for the appearance of stipper?

Maybe it is ash red spread, ash red being hidden by the hens recessive red?

I think it'll become much more clear when the bird is a little older.

I wouldn’t lean that way. She comes from a master breeder who has bred classical almonds for years. Should be no ash red. Maybe infidelity or maybe rec red mottled can hide stipper.

If she was bred by a different cock, can one of the eggs have been fertilized by the brown bar she is paired to and the other egg by a separate almond cock?

Yes, entirely possible for two eggs in a clutch to have different father's.

If she's from a loft of good almonds then you're right, there shouldn't be ash red or spread. Stipper recessive red is known as "Deroy", and is visibly different to regular rec red.
