Dark heterozygous grizzle American show racer hen. Breeder said it was a black but I can clearly see the tail bar so maybe not a spread after all.

Yep second one is a check/sooty or dark check grizzle. Not Spread.

Thank you Adam. New to pigeon genetics one step at a time and all that but I’m very pleased with your comment as I learnt about the spread gene and it’s related phenotypes by watching your YouTube videos. Thank you.

Thank you HSH. This is my favourite colour too and I intend keeping these. Just bought a similar cock bird but as I understand homozygous grizzle looks much different so maybe I need to put her to a blue cock bird maybe a checker.

I assume these are grizzles. There is so much variety in this phenotype that some times I’m not sure. Adam ;))
This is a pair of flying tipplers.

The front one is a grizzle with white flights, notice how some are grizzle coloured and some are pure white? The white ones are caused by a different gene separate to grizzle.

Thank you Adam. That’s interesting. These being flying tipplers I’d not really taken notice of the white flights until now as it’s what they do in the air that counts. However, I read that with my ASRs, grizzles with white flights is a fault. I didn’t know white flights were caused by a different gene I assumed it was caused by excess white grizzling if you know what I mean!
