I’ve posted this photo in the gallery but it can high light a point here too. This is a pair of Jack Bowden flying tipplers. That’s what their great grand parents were sold to me as in the days I was getting started with tipplers. Grizzles! Years later I now know that JB didn’t keep grizzles, only blue bars and predominantly silvers! High lights a point get to know your genetics and breeders.

Nice, I've never kept Tipplers but I've always been interested in them.

Thanks Adam. Incredible athletes and quite marked physical differences between ‘strains’ or should I say the person credited with first developing them. These silver Bowden’s are quite big compared with the Pilot’s. People advertise their birds by the name of the original developer yet the birds might be many, many generations from the original stock birds and I can’t see how they can be described as genuine as the moment someone else breeds these birds, they start diverging.
Just take a look at the silvers and the grizzles. Look at the compact heads of the grizzles or longer bodies of the silvers yet they were all described as Bowden’s.

Exactly the same as racing pigeons... It's laughable having "strains" named after people who died 50 or 100 years ago!

Totally agree. I think it is a marketing ploy to catch the newbies.

Sheffield tippler. This is the only bird I could get hold of. Really liked the colour so am putting it with my Pilots with the aim of establishing a recessive red kit. This is the her first season with me despite being an old bird. So far she’s produced three youngsters all blues. All look like hens so far. Desperately need a son to put back to her next year.
